Different Cat Breeds Pedigree or Mongrel Cat?

Cats are prehaps the easiest of all household pets to look after and the simple reason is because they are very independent, undemanding and very self sufficient, but which cat should you go for? Pedigree Cat or a Mongrel Cat?

Different Cat Breeds Pedigree Cat:

CAT BREEDERS

Pedigree cats are usually acquired deliberately, rather than accidentally, and tend to be more carefully supervised than most mongrels. They are perhaps more prone to suffer from over feeding and lack of exercise.

Their character is an important consideration. The foreign and Oriental breeds, particularly the Siamese, are untypical of cats in that they are loyal to one person, from whom they demand a great deal of attention in the most vocal way. Some are notorious for being very noisy cats, especially the females when calling, but their undoubted grace and intelligence outweighs this disadvantage for most people.

Orientals are also unusual in so far as they will allow themselves to be exercised on a lead. Longhaired cats, whether pedigree or mongrel, are demanding in that they should be groomed at least once every day. In fact, devotees of longhaired breeds often groom them two to three times a day.

Different Cat Breeds Mongrel Cat:

Most household cats are mongrel, and very often they have been adopted by a family on impulse. Such easily acquired cats may not have been inoculated against the infectious diseases, or may not have been wormed.

As soon as you acquire one, you should take it to your veterinary surgeon to be examined, and then neutered. It should be understood that although they may cost nothing at all to adopt, once taken into your household they will cost just as much as any other cat.

There is no reason, however, why these mongrel cats should not make delightful companions for us. Many of mongrel cats are beautiful and all are graceful in there own ways. You will find that nearly all mongrel cats are very easy to care for. Mongrel cats tend to be stronger than highly bred cats, mongrels are a product of immature parents and what you will find is that their kittens tend to be undersize.

Exercises For Different Dog Breeds

Dogs of different breeds behave differently and have different physical characteristics. It is therefore advised that different breeds of dogs should get different exercise routines so that they do not get over exhausted or obese. Selecting the right exercise regime for your dog depending on the breed is therefore essential.

Breeds and their exercises

CAT BREEDERS

Based on the different classes of breeds, a set of exercises can be determined.

1. Terriers: This class of dog includes breeds such as the Jack Russell Terrier, Irish Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Welsh Terrier and the famous American Pit Bull Terrier. They are highly intelligent and full of energy and can thus manage mind and body games such as obstacle courses and Frisbee. Chasing games are also good for this class of dogs.

2. Companion Dogs/ Toy Dogs: These are generally dogs, which are bred for companionship rather than utility such as Chihuahua, Pug, English bulldog and Shih Tzu. They require only minimal exercises such as walking. However, some breeds, which are also for companionship like the Dalmations and the Yorkshire terriers, need walks that are more vigorous.

3. Hounds: The hounds can be sub classified into two more subtypes: the scent hounds (which are bred to search on the basis of scent e.g. Harrier, Coonhound and Dachshund) and the sight hounds (which are bred to search on the basis of sight e.g. Greyhound, Irish wolfhound and Basenji). They have tendency to switch between work and play and therefore are recommended for walks, runs and hikes.

4. Guardian Dogs: These include breeds like the Bullmastiff, Great Dane, Great Pyrenee, Doberman Pinscher and the Rottweiler. These are strong dogs that can be quite active, however behaviorally they tend to start taking the play quite seriously, which could be problematic. It is therefore recommended that these dogs should be given exercise in the form of runs and obstacle courses but within limits.

5. Northern Dogs: This class includes dogs from breeds like the Chinook, Siberian husky, Malamute and Chow Chow. They are highly active and should be exercised a lot with hiking, runs, games (like sledding) to keep them active.

6. Gun/ Sporting Dogs: This class includes breeds like the Irish Settler, Labrador Retriever, English Cocker Spaniel and the Standard Poodle. Being bred for sports and hunting, these dogs have a lot of stamina and require a lot of exercise. Long walks, hiking and running activities are good. In addition, games like fetch can be played to keep the activity up.

7. Herding Dogs: Breeds, which come under this class, include the English Sheepdog, Welsh Corgi, Collie, Border Collie, German Shepherd, and the Schnauzer. These breeds generally have a moderate to high energy level and are therefore suited to a variety of exercises. Almost any games and sports are good for the dogs, especially runs, walks and challenging hikes.

Thus, depending on which class of breed your dog falls into, you should select an appropriate exercise regime for it. You must also determine the personality of your dog to best choose games and activities, which it can do for its wellbeing.

The Different Types of Cat Litter

There are many different types of cat litter. The type you use should depend on your cat and what sort it prefers to use. Some cats are funny about what type of cat litter they use. An indoor cat will need a litter tray cleaning a couple of times a day. It's important to follow good hygiene rules when you change cat litter.

Sawdust pellets cat litter - this wood by product is easy to use. In the bag it comes in it's in pellets. These crumble when they get wet and so can be filtered using a cat litter scoop. The solid pellets are kept in the tray and the damp sawdust removed. It has a pleasant woody smell out of the bag and is not unpleasant to handle when new.

Clumping litter is made from clays and forms clumps when wet. This is easily removed with a litter scoop.

Litter Crystals are a new invention and are made by Bob Martin. The crystals absorb all moisture and inhibits bacterial growth and cat odours. This keeps the litter tray smelling fresher and cleaner all day. The liquid and odour are absorbed and the liquid evaporates.

If your cat is ill and you've been asked to provide a cat urine sample you will know how stressful this can be. You have to use a non absorbent cat litter but with nothing in the tray many cats hold out for hours preferring to wait until they have something to scratch at. Katkor is a specially designed cat litter that is non-absorbent and therefore very suitable for collecting urine samples. Cat urine is used by the vet to find out which of the various types of bladder stones the cat has usually one of calcium oxalate crystals, urate crystals or orstruvite crystals.

There are also several brands of litter now made from recycled paper. These are very absorbent and eco-friendly.

Cat tray liners are available as are deodourising powders and sprays.

When you get your cat as a kitten you should be told what sort of litter is it used to. You should use this brand at least to start with so that your cat doesn't have a problem getting used to a strange house and a strange new litter tray. If cats have accidents outside of the litter tray it's important to clean it up and deodourise the area they've used. This prevents them using that area regularly. The most obvious way of solving this as an issue though is to move the litter tray to this new spot!

If you want to change the type of cat litter you are best introducing it slowly replacing the old cat litter slowly with the new type. This slow approach ensures your cat doesn't get too upset to continue using the tray. If you find your cat doesn't use the new style cat litter you should slow down on the change. If the cat doesn't use half of a tray filled with the new type then you can assume the cat doesn't like it. Persisting is unkind to the cat who then may have an aversion to using the tray at all.

If your cat has any health issue then you should always contact your vet for advice.

Part 2 - Discover the Russian Blue Cats and Other Different Cat Breeds

As you will recall from Part 1 of this article the first question asked was; "Are Russian Blue Cats smarter than the other different cat breeds? The truth is many of their breeders and owners believe they are. However, their belief comes from the respect and love they have for their own personal pet . The following information will give you more information, so you can determine if the Russian Blue feline is smarter or not.

Most of the breeders and owners have no scientific data to back up their opinion. They tend to base this opinion on the fact of how loyal the animal is to them. Also it's amazing ability to attune itself to their adopted families moods at a moments notice. Thus leading them to think the animal can read their minds.

SAVANNAH CAT BREEDERS

In addition the Russian Blue Cats have been known to learn how to open things such as windows and doors. They have also been known to play hide and seek, fetch and other parlor tricks. Again this is a learned behavior on the part of the Archangel Blue. Many of the owners and breeders feel that only this breed is capable of such behavior. Not so!

Frankly, that is a false assumption on their part. A great percentage of the other different cat breeds are intelligent enough to be trained to do the same thing. It all comes down to the patience of the trainer and the willingness of the feline to learn the tricks.

But there is one thing which should be noted about the Russian Blue; it is extremely loyal to its owner and will go to great lengths to please them. As you know cats can be very independent and act just the opposite from what the Archangel Blue does. However, one of the breeds which are very similar to the Russian Blue Cats is the Javanese.

This particular breed is considered to be extremely intelligent and extremely loyal to its master. The Javanese will respond to the mood of their master, by even attempting to communicate with different sounds. Many of the owners and breeders say this form of "talking" is distinctive to what is taking place at the time.

They seem to have the capability to communicate:

o    Pain

o    Contentment

o    Pleasure

o    Anger

o    Fear

o    To get attention

o    and others

As far as intelligence they also are quick learners and have been known to fetch, hide and seek, find hidden objects and other learned behavior.

Now let's compare the Russian Blue with more different cat breeds. How about the American Bobtail for instance?

If you were walking along side a country road and you spied an American Bobtail, your first thought would be; you're looking at a real bobcat. Their most distinguishing characteristic is of course the all natural bob tail. The bob tail, along with the muscular body and haunting eyes of a wild creature, has fooled more than one person.

However, you will find this beautiful creature ready to open its heart to you and your family. This feline loves to ride on your shoulders or catch a cat nap in your lap. One of the things which will blow your mind about the American Bobtail is a wonderful personality and it's adaptability to change.

Even though they look like a cat from the wilds they interact extremely well with children and believe it or not dogs. You will spend many hours watching this little clown like creature entertain you with his antics. Often times this playful little cut up will instigate a game and will continue to pester you until you play along. Because of its high degree of intelligence they are very easy to leash train and teach other tricks.

As you can see the Russian Blue Cats and other different cat breeds have much in common. Each cats owner and breeder say they are the best and the most intelligent. Actually you will find out that the cats have conspired together to keep their loved ones on their toes. Until next time!
