How Do You Get a Cat to Stop Biting?

In order to get your cat to stop biting you have to make sure you punish your cat immediately. There are several ways you can choose to punish your cat when they bite you.

First of all, you can grab them by the scruff, say "NO" loudly and ignore them for while. Other people use a squirt bottle to spray the cat, but you have to have a squirt bottle near you so you can use it right away. If you are standing when your cat bites you, you could stomp your foot loudly to scare them away, or make a loud sound.

Cats do this type of behavior for a number of reasons. Most cats will do this while they are playing. Some cats don't realize that they are hurting you when they are biting you, which is why they continue to do it. Remember, that in order for your cat to associated a punishment with biting you, the punishment has to be done right away. This is the quickest way to extinguish this behavior. It may take several days to a week or two, but eventually your cat should stop doing this behavior and start to act like the cat you want them to be. So start today, and be consistent in your reaction to their behavior.
