My Cat Refuses to Wear Its Collar - What Can I Do?

Most cats will refuse to wear a collar, but if you take the time to properly introduce them to it you can avoid much of the drama that the cat will put up.

Most cats seem to really hate wearing a collar and if you've ever tried to put one on then you know how much they will protest it. Some cats will act like a collar is so heavy its weighing them down, or they will paw violently at it trying to remove it from their necks.

Sometimes cats will work so hard to remove that they will get their hind leg caught in the collar as well. It's in these situations that you need a good breakaway collar or even a stretchy one.

The best way to introduce your cat to wearing its collar is to only put it on for 5-10 minutes a couple times a day in the beginning. Once your cat has gone through this routine for several days make the cat wear it all the time.

Most cats will protest a lot at the beginning but once they realize that this is something that they have to wear, they will soon get used to it.

If possible it's always best to introduce a cat to a collar when they are really young, as older cats tend to put up even more of a fight.

If you don't want to have your cat wearing a collar with an identification tag on it then at least consider getting your cat micro-chipped.
