Do You Have Cats That Are Fussy Eaters Or Just Will Not Eat?

The cats in our care range from newly born to 21 years of age. Yes, that is correct; we have two cats that are still with us at the age of 21 year and still thriving.

We believe the key to their happy lives is a good diet, plenty of fresh water, fresh air and companion when they need it.

I am going to focus on our cat's diet in this article so that you can see how easy it is to give your cats a hearty meal that they will love and enjoy.

Please bear in mind that if your cats eat small amounts at a time this is perfectly normal. We mostly care for Bengal and Savannah Cats which are routine creatures so that quality in them gives us the opportunity to train them while they are young. Having said that, I believe you can train most cats to adapt to a good feeding routine.

o We always aim to feed them in the same place at the same time each day
o Avoid feeding your cats food from your own dinner plate
o Food from you own dinner plate could contain added salt and other undesirable ingredients that could upset your cat's stomach.
o We do not give our cats dairy products it will upset their stomachs and they cannot digest it.

Remember, feeding your cats outside of the routine in which you have already established for them and from your plate could confuse them and at times most cats will flatly refuse to eat. Try to avoid doing this at all cost. We found the following works.

We have cats that came to us already established on a dry food diet so we provide them with a good quality dry cat food left down constantly with fresh boiled cool water. Some of our cats ignore dry food altogether.

Water is a significant healthy requirement for everyone including animals. All feeding bowls must be kept as far away from litter trays as possible and cleaned after every meal.

Some varieties of commercial wet foods we previously offered our cats went uneaten and it is because of this we decided to try cooking for our cats.

This simple recipe delivers a clean dish after every meal and will be sufficient for three cats:-

1. Put two raw chicken legs or one large chicken breast in a pan with one cup of boiled water.
2. Add two tablespoons of raw rice (we use long grain rice).
3. Do not add any salt whatsoever.
4. Add a hand full of chicken livers (remove any green showing on the livers).
5. If you do not have chicken liver, add a pinch of Taurine when the chicken is cool. Cats need Taurine which can be found in raw chicken, chicken livers and food cats would catch and eat in their natural habitat.
6. Bring to the boil; cool and cut up the chicken and livers.
7. Mix the chicken, livers together with the rice, and serve with a teaspoon of extra virgin coconut oil stirred into the mixture.
8. Watch them eat it all up.

Do not add any salt whatsoever to this mixture.

We hope your cats enjoy this meal as much as our cats do.

Remember, if your cats do not eat, seek advice from your Vet as soon as possible.
