Breaking Up Cat Fights

A cat is a playful creature. Cats spend most of their time playing with something or someone. Put two cats together and they will be playfully fighting with each other, teasing each other in every chance they get. However, these playful fights might sometimes lead to some serious fights between them. Cats are very dangerous when they become furious. It is not difficult to find out whether the cats are fighting playfully or are planning to hurt each other. You will know instantly when the fight gets serious. It is imperative that you break up the cat fight as it might lead to hurting one (if not both) of your cats. Here are some tips that will help you in such a situation.

1. Use a broom to separate both the cats. Drag one of the cats to some other room using a broom. Keep him there until both of them calm. Do not try to touch the cat with your hand. As I said earlier they are extremely dangerous when they are furious and might even hurt you.
2. You can try and put a blanket on them. The sudden darkness sometimes startles them and they stop fighting.
3. Blocking the view between them helps sometimes. When you put something between the cats depriving them of each others sight; the cat which is afraid of the other one gets a chance to flee. The dominant cat also calms down when the other cat is no longer in its sight and then you can pick him up and take him to another room.
4. Another way of stopping the cat fight is by using water. But this method might turn out to be dangerous as the cats might get even more furious after you pour water on them. If you choose to throw water on them make sure you aim straight at their heads.
5. Keep you cats claws trimmed. This will minimize the injury that the cats do to each other.
6. Research has shown that spayed or neutered cats show less aggression. This could be a good way to prevent the cats from fighting and control the pet population.
7. Try not to have too many cats at your home. More number of cats means greater chances of them getting into a cat fight.
8. When you bring a new cat into your home you should be very careful about introducing it to the other cat. You should make sure both of them like each other from the starting. Encourage their good behavior by showing affection and feeding them. If they do not seem to get along then it is best that you give away one of the cats.
