Getting an Outdoor Cat House

If your cat spends a lot of time outdoors, whether that's because the value their freedom or because your not home to let them in, you can spend a lot of time worrying about whether they're safe, whether they've found some shelter in the latest storm or whether they're pawing at the door because the want to come home.

If you don't have a cat flap installed then your other option is to provide them somewhere safe to for them to curl up and sleep such as a shed or garage. But if they don't have one they can access when they need to, then the best option is an outdoor cat house. There are a number on the market. Some are better quality than others.

When you're shopping for an outdoor cat house there are a number of things you should consider.

Does the house need to be waterproofed? If it's made of wood then it will definitely need sealing against the weather and this will need to be done a yearly basis. If at all possible opt for a plastic one which allows you to wipe it clean and will not need much yearly maintenance apart from a quick wipe down.

Does the outdoor cat house have a flap for a door? Some do and some don't. But there are also some that have an overhang and a recessed door which will also stop the weather from affected your cat while they're inside. Either feature is good to have.

How do you want it to look in your garden? If you're looking for something that looks stylish and is available in a wide range of colours then opt for a KatKabin. If you want your outdoor cat house to blend in with your garden, then go for Mr Snugs Outdoor Cat Kennel.

Is it heavy enough? Having a heavy cat house might not sound like a good idea but the heavier it is the house the less it will be blown about in the wind.
